Boy Talk is a super cool club for boys founded by two early childhood educators, Karly Shields and Angela Augustus. Karly and Angela are seasoned educators with over 35 years of combined teaching experience. Boy Talk's goal is to get boys comfortable with talking about how they feel in a respectful and fun environment with their peers. We want boys to know that feelings are healthy and normal and to offer simple strategies for navigating them.
We will have a weekly snack and chat to check in on everyone's day and talk about how we are REALLY feeling. We will gain practice and confidence in expressing how we feel as we make new friends outside of our existing circles.
The arts are a true release for children and adults alike. We know the role creative expression can play in navigating our emotions. We will to introduce a new project each week that allows us to further explore our feelings. As teachers, we find that when children's hands are busy they feel more at ease in sharing their thoughts and insights.
As a group we will explore our environment through hikes, fort-building, collecting natural objects, searching for creatures and insects, and even using our surroundings to build monster truck courses! We want the boys to learn the importance of moving their bodies in nature and experience how exercise can improve their mood and boost their happiness.
The ground rules for Boy Talk are an integral part of our program. Following the rules ensures that our time together is safe and enjoyable. We regularly discuss these rules in order for the boys to develop an understanding of what they mean and why they are important.
